Here's everything you need to know about the world of television for Friday, October 25th, 2024:
PRODUCTION NOTES
Tonight's newsletter is an abbreviated version. As you might have noticed earlier, I spent all day working on the Dan Schneider lawsuit story and after about 13 hours sitting at a computer, I've hit my wall. Hopefully, that's okay.
SPEAKING OF DAN SCHNEIDER...
I sent out a rare breaking news email earlier today with the news that the lawsuit filed by ex-Nickelodeon producer Dan Schneider against the producers of the documentary Quiet On Set: The Dark Side Of Kids TV was on its way to be dismissed. I hurried to send the story out (even missing a typo), thinking that other entertainment outlets would post their version of the story once mine went live.
Apparently, I had more faith in the journalism chops of the trades then they deserved, because I write this, none of them have posted anything about today's hearing. As a matter of fact, the only stories I can find right now are a couple of pieces from some courtroom news or law-centric web sites. And both of those pieces are behind a paywall. I find the lack of reporting on this just perplexing. Although perhaps everyone working at the trades who isn't an intern rewriting press releases has left town for the weekend.
BTW, I updated my original story a couple times this afternoon. Including some quotes and context from today's hearing. You can read the expanded and updated version here.
While I usually softball my pitches to you to upgrade to a paid subscription, this feels like a good opportunity to mention that I am doing unique reporting on subjects that the bigger entertainment news outlets are missing. I enjoy the reporting, but it's a lot of work. For instance, today's reporting on Dan Schneider included a lot of legwork, including tracking down the various court documents.
If you are able to do so, I would really appreciate it. But if not, if you can forward this newsletter or a link to the Schneider to people you think might find it interesting, I would appreciate it. It's tough to get this work out to a larger audience when you're a small publication.
