Too Much TV: So Much New TV To Talk About

Here’s everything you need to know about the world of television for Tuesday, March 10th, 2026:

PRODUCTION NOTES
There is a LOT of random TV and streaming news today, which has pushed out just about everything else. Things should be back to my normal mix tomorrow.

'FRONTLINE' IS DOING WHAT 'FRONTLINE' DOES BEST
The PBS news documentary series Frontline continues to deliver some of the most deeply-sourced and non-partisan coverage of current news that you can find anywhere on television. In response to the current war in Iran, the series is providing updated versions of two of its recent episodes that centered on Iran and the Middle East.

Tonight, PBS premieres an updated presentation of Remaking the Middle East. "From award-winning Frontline filmmakers James Jacoby and Anya Bourg, the deeply reported two-hour documentary traces the road to war with Iran, and the Israeli and U.S. roles. Remaking the Middle East examines Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s long campaign to defeat Iran, his relations with the U.S. over peace and the regime’s nuclear ambitions. The documentary originally premiered in July 2025, one month after escalating tensions between Israel and Iran erupted into all-out war. This updated version will include timely new interviews, exploring what led to the current war."

And then on Tuesday, March 31st, Frontline will present an updated and expanded version of its December 2025 investigation, Strike on Iran: The Nuclear Question. "In partnership with The Washington Post, Evident Media and Bellingcat, the documentary provides an immersive investigation into Iran’s nuclear program in the aftermath of the June 2025 strikes, using rare on-the-ground access inside Iran and in-depth analysis. It  examines the impact of U.S. strikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities and the effects of an Israeli bombing campaign against the country’s top nuclear scientists. From the producing team of Adam Desiderio and Sebastian Walker, who is also the correspondent, the updated documentary will feature new reporting and interviews that investigate the threat Iran posed, the latest strikes and the impact."

IS PHARMA ADVERTISING ON TV REACHING A BREAKING POINT?
In the Next In Media newsletter Mike Shield writes about the flood of Pharma advertising on ad-supported streaming. And points to the increase of the scattershot advertising as an indication that targeting specific audiences on streaming is more difficult than industry experts would lead you to believe:

I’m not trying to make light of any of these conditions - nor do I not want people to get the drugs they need. But these are maladies that very few Americans actually have (about three quarters of a million people in the US have Crohn’s disease.

The more that streaming is flooded with these ads - the more they seem to make a mockery of what we all hear are CTV’s strengths: identity, cross device frequency management, uber-precise targeting, TV as a performance vehicle, etc. etc.

Sure, TV companies, I suppose get the pharma cash while the money is good (or until RFK Jr. takes it away)- but you have to wonder what this does for the medium’s development, reputation among brands, and viewers’ attentiveness. If I’m a CMO, I may start to question whether all these CTV leaders and ad tech companies can actually do all they say they can. Especially in a medium already known for having a major frequency problem - at a time when many are wondering whether machines will eventually be better at spending your media budgets than people.

Speaking for myself, I would be thrilled to never have to watch that crooked carrot commercial ever again.
