HBO Max has announced it has greenlit the new Max Original series Margarita, a spin-off of the popular family comedy Floricienta.
The series is created and produced by producer Cris Morena.
The logline of the series follows:
Princess Margaret is the daughter of Florence and Maximus, and the heir to the throne of the fictional Kingdom of Krikoragán. In times of great turmoil in her Kingdom, her parents exiled her (then a baby) and her siblings to protect them, and they disappeared from her.
Upon learning of the disappearance of her family, the villainous Aunt Delfina takes advantage of an orphan who bears a strong resemblance to Margarita and puts her in her place, thus appropriating the family fortune.
Years later, Delfina becomes a successful businesswoman. She runs a center of artistic activities and fashion trends: the Soho Hangar, which will serve as the setting for Margarita's adventures and misadventures. Her villainous aunt does not suspect who she is, as she has grown into a beautiful and talented young woman.
Margarita is unaware of her past and will have to follow a heroine's path to achieve her artistic dreams, recover her fortune and find love with her prince charming.
'We have been working on this project for a long time and I am excited to finally transmit to new generations what Floricienta meant , said Morena in a statement announcing the project. "I am happy to embark on this journey with Margarita, who has a story and endearing characters that I am sure the audience will get involved and moved by."
"Floricienta is a story that remains current over the years and continues to enchant young people," said Mariano Cesar, General Entertainment Content Leader for Latin America and US Hispanic. "Since its launch on HBO Max, it became one of the most watched family comedies in the entire Spanish-speaking region.'
'We join Cris again to continue telling unforgettable stories that point straight to the heart. We are convinced that Margarita will have many communities of fans among our audiences because she has an original script, which is as funny as it is emotional, and features great Argentine talents.'
