Digital TV Research: Netflix Global Subscriptions To Reach 313 Million

Global SVOD subscriptions are expected to increase by 332 million between 2023 and 2029 to reach 1.79 billion, according to just-released analysis from Digital TV Research.

“Netflix will remain the largest single platform, adding 52 million subscribers between 2023 and 2029 to take its total to 313 million,” analyst Simon Murray said in a statement. “Disney+ will remain about 120 million subscribers behind Netflix, with less investment and take-up in the Asia Pacific region.”

Netflix and Disney+ ended the most-recent fiscal period (March 31) with 270 million and 153 million subs, respectively.

Six U.S.-based platforms are projected to have 961 million SVOD subscribers by 2029 (54% of the world’s total), up from 758 million in 2023 (52%). These platforms will increase their sub bases by 203 million over this period from the global 332 million additions.

One fascinating wrinkle is the continued growth of SVOD in China, a market in which none of the major global streamers have an official presence.
