Dwayne Johnson Movie 'Jungle Cruise' To Get Disney+ Premium Access Hybrid Release

The new Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt movie Jungle Cruise is the latest Disney motion picture to receive a hybrid theatrical/Disney+ Premium Access release.

Johnson made the announcement on social media early Thursday morning, prior to Disney’s earnings call Thursday after the close of the stock market.

Jungle Cruise, inspired by the Disneyland ride, will open in cinemas and on Disney+ Premier Access, which charges a $29.99 charge on Disney+ subscribers.

The movie will becomes available at no extra cost to Disney+ subscribers several months after its theatrical premiere. 

Jungle Cruise is based on the Disneyland ride of the same name and in the film Johnson plays the wise-cracking captain of a ramshackle boat who agrees to carry Blunt’s British researcher Dr. Lily Houghton down the Amazon in search of an ancient tree with healing properties. t-The cast includes Edgar Ramírez and Jack Whitehall, with Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti.

The movie is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra directs, who also directs the upcoming Dwayne Johnson movie Black Adam scheduled for release in 2022. Michael Green and Glenn Ficarra, and John Requa co-wrote the screenplay from a story by John Norville and Josh Goldstein, and Glenn Ficarra and John Requa.

John Davis and John Fox of Davis Entertainment produces with Johnson, Hiram Garcia and Dany Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions, and Beau Flynn of Flynn Picture Co. Scott Sheldon and Doug Merrifield are executive producers.
