More “McDuck” more than Dickens, but it’s still perfect fare for any time of year. Based on a string of mall bombings in Germany in the late 1980s and early 1990s, I Am Scrooge tells the true story of Arno Funke (Friedrich Mücke, Tatort) who extorted department stores for cash in exchange for not setting off more bombs in their stores! The cat-and-mouse drama is positively thrilling as “Scrooge” evades the police again and again - and you might perhaps find yourself rooting for the eccentric inventor, who became a popular folk hero in Germany at the time.
