Here’s everything you need to know about the world of television for Friday, March 20th, 2026:
IT'S NEWFRONTS WEEK
The 2026 IAB NewFronts are happening Monday-Thursday of this week in NYC, and the annual event is designed to be the digital industry's answer to the traditional television Upfronts. This year, the NewFronts have shifted earlier in the year, in order to make a little room between them and the Upfronts in May.
I'll be covering a lot of it this week, in large part because this is increasingly becoming a large part of the traditional media business.
Here is this week's schedule, and while I already have a few announcements already under embargo, how much I cover here will really depend on how much that's announced really matters.
Monday:
Google
Walmart | VIZIO
LG Ad Solutions
LinkdIn
Tuesday:
Samsung
Tubi
TikTok
Yahoo
Wednesday:
IAB Stage, which is a day-long rundown of smaller presentations.
Thursday:
Genius Sports
Meta
YouTube
UPROXX
WEIRDLY ENOUGH, 'SCALE' TURNS OUT TO NOT BE THAT IMPORTANT TO STREAMING VIDEO CONSUMERS
Hub Entertainment Research has just released the latest The Evolution Of Video Branding, its annual study tracking consumer awareness and perceptions of streaming brands — continues to highlight that major streaming platforms still struggle to differentiate themselves, with viewers unable to clearly articulate what sets one service apart from another.
There are a lot of interesting data points, but this one points to the biggest problem facing streaming video platforms: content discovery, which includes knowing where to find the show once it's on your radar:
And when it comes to the question "What makes each service better than others," it's notable that despite all of the money Netflix spends on original content, the #1 answer is "easy to use:"
It's also worth highlighting that the fact the #1 answer for both Paramount+ and HBO Max is "exclusive originals." Which might be a problem if there end up being fewer originals post-merger. And as a side note, Peacock's February delivery of the Super Bowl and the Winter Olympics helped distinguish the platform on sports content.
This data is less of a surprise. The younger the viewer, the more they are likely to think of YouTube as a TV Network/streaming platform:

Here is a first look at the season and this is the official (brief) logline: "In the aftermath of mistaken and unflattering news reports that she passed away, Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) and Ava (Hannah Einbinder) return to Las Vegas more determined than ever to secure Deborah’s legacy as a comedian."
* A Gorilla Story: Told By David Attenborough premieres Friday April 17th on Netflix. Here is a first video look at the documentary. * Dutton Ranch will premiere Friday, May 15th on Paramount+. Here is a first look at the series and a photo gallery of images. Here is the official logline: "As Beth and Rip fight to build a future together - far from the ghosts of Yellowstone - they collide with brutal new realities and a ruthless rival ranch that will stop at nothing to protect its empire. In South Texas, blood runs deeper, forgiveness is fleeting, and the cost of survival might just be your soul."

* Following a summer debut in 2025, Nelly And Ashanti: We Belong Together will return to Peacock this year for a second season.

This is the official logline: "Hive is horror-thriller about a strict, anxious teenager (Xochitl Gomez) who loses the child she’s babysitting and must brave a sinister force hiding in plain sight among the children in the playground. As her world unravels and her grip on reality starts to slip, she must outwit a world where nothing is as it seems, to make it out alive."
* Where It Lies will premiere Monday, April 6th on the ESPN App, with its linear debut airing Wednesday, April 8th at 5 p.m. on ESPN2. This is the official logline: "Directed by Timothy Horgan, produced by Bluefoot Entertainment and Omaha Productions, and executive produced by ESPN senior writer and three-time New York Times best-selling author Wright Thompson, Russ Supplee, Timothy Horgan and John T. Edge, Where It Lies comes from the makers of TrueSouth and is the first docuseries to explore the real world of public golf where quirky characters, hidden histories, and thriving local cultures collide on the course. Each episode uses a public course as a gateway into a city’s food, music, traditions, and personalities, revealing how golf shapes — and is shaped by — the communities that play it. Authentic, cinematic, and offbeat, the series uncovers the game’s most relatable side while celebrating its accessibility and diversity."
* CBS has renewed CIA for a second season.
* Rahel Solomon, the anchor of CNN’s 5 a.m. ET show Early Start, told viewers this morning that she is departing the network.
* The documentary The Last Twins will be available to stream for free beginning Monday, April 13th on PBS.org, the PBS YouTube channel and the PBS App in honor of Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. Here is the official logline: "The documentary tells the story of Erno “Zvi” Spiegel, an unsung hero of the Holocaust who defied the Nazis to protect some of the most vulnerable in Auschwitz—dozens of young boys, many of them twins, targeted by Dr. Josef Mengele for brutal pseudo medical experimentation. Spiegel shielded the young children in his care from unimaginable harm and death. And when liberation finally came, he didn’t stop—he led the boys across war-torn Europe on a harrowing journey towards their homes. Combining first-hand testimony and exclusive archival material, The Last Twins paints an inspiring portrait of survival. The film features interviews with some of the boys (now men) who survived because of Spiegel’s defiance as well as conversations with Spiegel’s family."
REMEMBERING DAVID SARNOFF
The 100th anniversary of NBC is coming up and as Julia Barton writes in her newsletter Continuous Wave, the company seems to almost forgotten the legacy of David Sarnoff, who founded the company. As is the case with many of those early media pioneers, Sarnoff had a varied and at times kinda crazy life:
Sarnoff says he got fired from his first job because he asked for time off to sing in temple during the Jewish high holy days. But soon he found another office-boy gig at the North American offices of the Marconi Company.
The Anglo-Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi had, just a few years earlier, claimed to send an experimental wireless signal across the Atlantic. But the American branch of his business was almost bust, as Sarnoff found out when he was sent to collect loans so the office could make payroll.
Finally, Sarnoff got to meet the boss, Marconi himself. Marconi had a lot of mistresses around town and sent Sarnoff on errands to bring them flowers and chocolates. But he and Sarnoff also found time to talk about the mysterious wireless.
