When I gently launched the Global TV Awards last year, I wasn't sure what to expect. There is an increasing flood of non-English language international television being released in the U.S. But so much of it is just dumped onto the various services with little notice and almost no information aside from a dubbed trailer. And there are also some really great smaller international streamers that don't receive a lot of attention from the American press.
The awards were an attempt to highlight the best of global television and while last year's debut didn't receive a lot of attention from the press, it garnered more than 60,000 votes from global television fans. And even better, I received a lot of feedback from both international creators happy for the extra attention and lovers of the genre who discovered some new things to watch.
The eligibility guidelines are straight forward:
* A show, movie, documentary or special must have been originally produced outside the United States and in a language other than English.
* The title must have premiered in the United States sometime in the 2025 calendar year. It must have premiered in its original territory no earlier than 1/1/2024.
* It has to be available on a legitimate commercial SVOD or AVOD. Not YouTube, not someone's private server.
