Britbox, a streaming video service from BBC Worldwide and ITV, has announced a content partnership with Fremantle International, a British television content and production/distribution subsidiary of Bertelsmann’s RTL Group.
Starting this month, the streaming service will be home to “QI,” a comedy trivia show; and to “Escape to the Country,” a show that helps home buyers find their dream house in the country. Both of these programs will be housed in Britbox’s "Now" section, which offers programming as soon as 24 hours after their UK broadcast.
The deal will also include award-winning series “Merlin,” starring Oscar nominee John Hurt (“Doctor Who,” “Harry Potter”), and Colin Morgan (“The Huntsman: Winter’s War,” “The Fall”). “Against The Law,” a 90- minute docudrama centered around the infamous Montagu Trial, will also be available on the platform.
"We are excited to be partnering with Britbox as they continue to build a fan base for top British programming in the U.S.,” said Lisa Honig, EVP, International Distribution for FremantleMedia International in North America. “We work with both our in-house FremantleMedia UK and third party producers to collate a bold, diverse, and exciting catalogue of the very best of British programming, and we’re thrilled that U.S. viewers will get to enjoy it via BritBox."
