On Friday, the conviction of Brendan Dassey, a Wisconsin man who appeared in the Netflix documentary "Making a Murderer," was overturned by a federal judge in Milwaukee. Dassey was convicted in 2007 of the murder of photographer Teresa Halbach. Steven Avery, the subject of "Making a Murderer," is in a Wisconsin prison also serving time for Halbach's murder.
Prosecutors have 90 days to bring Dassey, now 26, to trial again or he will be released.
In overturning the conviction, the judge cited the manner in which a confession was obtained from Dassey, who according to court documents has a low IQ.
In response to decision, 'Making A Murderer' Directors Laura Ricciardi And Moira Demos released this short statement:
"Today there was a major development for the subjects in our story and this recent news shows the criminal justice system at work. As we have done for the past 10 years, we will continue to document the story as it unfolds, and follow it wherever it may lead."
