After the mysterious brutal attack of a local college co-ed, Portland homicide Detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) discovered he is descendant of an elite line of criminal profilers known as “Grimms,” charged with keeping balance between humanity and the mythological creatures of the world. As he tries to hide the dangers of his new found calling from his fiancé, Juliette Silverton (Bitsie Tulloch), and his partner, Hank Griffin (Russell Hornsby), he becomes ever more entrenched in the ancient rivalries and alliances of the Grimm world. With help from his reluctant confidant, Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell), a reformed Grimm creature himself, Nick must navigate through the forces of a larger-than-life mythology. Reggie Lee and Sasha Roiz also star.

Nick realizes that there's more to Roddy than meets the eye, and enlists Monroe's (Silas Weir Mitchell) help to get through to the troubled teenager before he exacts revenge on the students who wronged him. Meanwhile, Nick learns that his presence is beginning to affect the creature world.

A failed jewelry store robbery results in a murder that finds Nick (David Giuntoli) and Hank (Russell Hornsby) immersed in a hunt for rare coins. Nick soon learns that these coins have an unsettling effect on whoever possesses them, as Hank and Captain Renard (Sasha Roiz) begin to exhibit unusual behavior. Meanwhile, a mysterious old friend of Aunt Marie’s (guest star Titus Welliver, "Lost") comes to Nick with information about his family and what led to his parent’s death.

Elsewhere, Captain Renard (Sasha Roiz) enlists Adalind (guest star Claire Coffee) to cast a spell on Hank (Russell Hornsby). Meanwhile, Sgt. Wu (Reggie Lee) unwittingly becomes entangled in Adalind’s dastardly plan.

It’s left to Nick to keep everyone safe. Back in Portland, Hank (Russell Hornsby) and Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) each find themselves on the brink of new romantic relationships.

Meanwhile, Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) insists that Nick invite Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) over for dinner, making for quite the interesting evening.

After Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) stumbles upon a brutal murder, Nick (David Giuntoli) learns the suspected creature (guest star Kenneth Mitchell), and friend of Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell), is suffering from a mysterious condition -- the inability to completely return to human form. This mysterious condition leads them to a therapist (guest star Roger Bart) who’s created an artificial drug to suppress the creature side, with horrifying side effects. Meanwhile, the investigation takes a surprising turn when Hank (Russell Hornsby) sees something he can't quite explain.
