Here's everything you need to know about the world of television for Thursday, December 10th, 2020. I'm writing this from the Twin Cities suburbs, where AllYourScreens HQ is powered by Ginger Ale and some Manwich.THE TICKING TIME BOMB THAT IS DAN SCHNEIDERNews broke later yesterday that Paramount+ is working on a reboot of the Nick teen series iCarly, starring three stars from the original series. It's not surprising news, given how all of the streamers are mining whatever old IP they have available. But it's a reminder of the the mysterious disappearance of Dan Schneider, who co-created and produced a…

Former Viacom Exec: 'I Never Saw Any Evidence' Of Sexual Misconduct With Dan Schneider

Written by 02 April, 2018
In the days since it was announced that Nickelodeon was parting ways with its long-time writer/producer Dan Schneider and his Schneider's Bakery Productions there has been a lot of public speculation about why he left at this particular moment. Schneider spent nearly twenty years creating a string of hit shows targeting tween audiences and while ratings have dropped for such shows across the industry, his show "Henry Danger" remains the top-rated teen show on the network. So given that success, why are the two companies severing ties right now?It didn't take long for the rumors to surface about possible reasons…

#PizzaGate, Hollywood And The Great #Pedogate Conspiracy

Written by 04 April, 2018
I love social media and use Twitter throughout the day. But one thing social media does better than almost anything else is provide a seamless way for conspiracy theorists to come together in into one twisted clump of paranoia. It's extremely easy to fall down a rabbit hole of half-baked theories, many of them based on coincidences and suppositions along the lines of "well, where there's smoke, there's fire!Roseanne Barr's tweets last week about Donald Trump's war on pedophiles might have seemed like a strange thing for her to bring up just a couple of days after the successful launch…

At the time, most industry folks thought the Time Warner/AOL merger was forward-thinking. Although it…

Whatever Happened To Dan Schneider?

Written by 20 May, 2020
As a journalist, one of the worst things than can happen to you is hearing from a source who tells you that you've let them down. I received one of those this morning, from a well-known actress who asked me why I had decided not to run a piece about one of her former bosses. "You said you cared about this story," she complained. "I trusted you and you let me down."When producer Dan Schneider and his production company Schneider's Bakery split with Nickelodeon in March 2018, the suddenness of the move came as a surprise to many industry observers.…

Written by 08 December, 2020
The streaming service Peacock has now had more than 26 million sign-ups, according NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell. The company reported it had reached 15 million sign-ups in September and 22 million in October. It's worth noting that "sign-ups" is a very different metric than "subscribers" or "paid subscribers." Those totals have not been released by the company.Shell spoke Tuesday at the UBS Global TMT investor conference, and said that advertising is the primary revenue stream for Peacock and so the company measures the service’s success via sign-ups, how many of them use the service regularly and how many hours per month…
